BLACKSBURG, Va. (WDBJ) - It’s no secret Blacksburg needs more student and affordable housing options.

But after a proposal to build a new apartment complex was on the table in the town council chamber, the request didn’t go any further in a five-to-two vote.

Part of that decision was due to the location of the apartment building, planned for University City Boulevard. That area was designated by town council for commercial growth in the town’s comprehensive plan.

Developers came to the town council with a proposal to build a six-story apartment building on University City Boulevard , across the street from University Mall. It would have required existing buildings to be demolished.
