Gov. Kathy Hochul signed several bills into law Thursday regarding artificial intelligence regulation.
One piece of legislation aims to stop artificial intelligence from being used to essentially recreate people who have died.
The legislation requires the heirs or executors of the deceased to give consent before their name, image or likeness is used for commercial purposes. For example, a person dies and then all of a sudden there's video of them touting some product on TV or the internet. Another example would be a deceased actor all of the sudden popping up in a movie without any consent.
Another bill Hochul signed would require the creators of the advertisement to identify if it includes AI actors or recreation.
