OTTAWA — Wednesday’s addition of notable ideologically motivated violent extremist (IMVE) groups to Canada’s list of proscribed terror groups is being applauded by one Canadian Jewish organization.

Maniac Murder Club, also known by its Russian initials MKY, is an international racially-motivated extremist group that has a history of targeting Jews in both their hateful propaganda and incitements to violence.

Richard Robertson, B’nai Brith Canada’s director of research and advocacy, said groups like MKY are an example of the dangers posed by online radicalization, and how they translate into harms in the real world.

“Listing MKY as a terrorist organization is important because it gives police more tools to proactively respond to the threat it poses to Canadian society,” he said.
