LAKE WORTH, Texas — Lake Worth ISD will be taken over by the Texas Education Agency (TEA), Commissioner Mike Morath announced Thursday.

Similar to the letter in October announcing the TEA's intent to take over Fort Worth ISD , Morath ordered the appointment of a board of managers, a conservator and a superintendent for Lake Worth ISD.

The announcement comes after one of Lake Worth ISD's schools, Marilyn Miller Language Academy, received its fifth unacceptable academic accountability rating with the release of the 2024-2025 ratings, which, under state law, triggers mandatory closure or the possibility of a state-appointed board. In his announcement, Morath said it had been eight years since the Marilyn Miller Language Academy earned an acceptable academic rating.
