FRANKFORT, Ky. (WKYT) - Kentuckians gathered at the Old State Capitol Thursday morning to honor the commonwealth’s military veterans during the National Wreaths Across America Day.
The ceremony featured wreaths placed at the flag base of each U.S. military branch and one for prisoners of war. The event focused on remembrance, education and honor for those who served.
“We remember patriots who returned home, lived normal lives, passed on and unfortunately whose remains remain unclaimed,” said Whitney Allen, commissioner of the Kentucky Department of Veterans Affairs.
Educational component highlights sacrifice
