GREENVILLE, N.C. (WITN) - People across eastern North Carolina are showing strong generosity this holiday season, with several organizations reporting donation increases compared to last year.

Volunteers worked Thursday morning to distribute generous donations from ENC residents to those in need.

Kenneth Taylor, a volunteer at the Salvation Army in Greenville, said the increase wasn’t expected due to the economy.

“It’s very surprising with the prices the way they are. People are still giving to the Salvation Army, which is a good cause,” Taylor said.

Salvation Army staff said in Pitt County alone, they’ve raised $50,000 during their holiday drive. That’s $25,000 more than last year. The number of toy donations is up significantly as well.
