WARNER ROBINS, Ga. — A Warner Robins man has pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter in the death of his brother and was sentenced to 20 years in prison, the maximum allowed for the charge.

Joseph Daniel Schaarschmidt, 31, entered the plea in Houston County Superior Court on Thursday, per a report from the Houston County District Attorney's Office.

The case stems from a Jan. 28, 2024, shooting at the Skylar Pointe Apartments on Olympia Drive, according to a prior release from the Warner Robins Police Department.

The department said officers were called to the scene after a witness, Tori Mather, reported that Schaarschmidt had shot his brother, Augustus Schaarschmidt. Officers established a perimeter around the complex and found Mather emotionally distraught.
