BASTROP COUNTY, Texas — As Bastrop County continues to grow, its animal services facility is preparing to follow suit.

This week, county commissioners approved a new contract to expand the Bastrop County Animal Shelter, a long-anticipated project that could break ground as early as next week.

County officials told KVUE that the expansion is overdue. Jill Gunn, Director of Bastrop County Animal Services, said the shelter currently houses around 200 animals but only has 90 kennels. With nearly nine dogs arriving daily, the need for additional space has become increasingly urgent.
