In a historic leap towards cleaner energy and sustainable transport, Varanasi is all set to become the first city in India to operate a commercial hydrogen fuel-cell vessel on its waterways. Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Thursday inaugurated India’s first indigenously developed hydrogen-fuel vessel in Varanasi.

Launched at Namo Ghat, the vessel has now begun commercial operations. Sonowal highlighted that the launch demonstrates India’s growing technological capabilities and commitment to green energy, placing the country alongside nations like China, Norway, the Netherlands, and Japan in operating hydrogen-powered vessels.
