WASHINGTON, Mo. (First Alert 4) -Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem committed Thursday to reviewing the case of Donna Hughes Brown, a local woman who has been detained by ICE since July despite being a legal resident.
Brown, a Troy, Missouri resident, came to the United States nearly 50 years ago when she was 11 years old. She is a legal permanent resident but not a U.S. citizen.
The case gained national attention after her husband Jim Brown, a combat veteran, launched a campaign for her release. Brown has been held at a jail in Kentucky since her July detention in Chicago.
During a congressional hearing Thursday, Rhode Island Democratic Rep. Seth Magaziner confronted Noem about the case.
“Because of you, Jim’s wife Donna has been in prison for the last 4 months,” Magaziner said.
