The Monday resignation of a Jacksonville elementary school principal "should not be tied solely" to the October arrest of a janitor at her school on a sexual assault charge, a Jacksonville/North Pulaski School District spokeswoman said Thursday, a day after saying the two events were connected.

Lindsey Jones' resignation from Bayou Meto Elementary was "a personnel matter" and followed a series of "internal factors and circumstances," school district spokeswoman Cheesa Williams said Thursday. On Wednesday, Williams said the resignation stemmed from the Oct. 31 arrest of Harold Butchart, 44.

"I did not mean to imply that her decision was tied solely or directly to the arrest of Mr. Butchart, nor that she was criminally negligent in any way," Williams said.
