The Santa Maria Police Department will conduct a DUI checkpoint at an undisclosed location on Saturday night.
The checkpoint will be held at a location based on data identifying areas with a high incidence of impaired driving-related crashes, from 6 p.m. to 2 a.m.
“Impaired driving is preventable,” Sgt. Shane Armstrong said. “It’s a choice. If you’ve been drinking or taken drugs that impair, make the right choice by finding a sober driver or alternate transportation to take you places.”
While medicinal and recreational marijuana are legal, driving under the influence of marijuana is illegal. Some prescription medications and over-the-counter drugs may also interfere with driving.
Grant awarded
The department has been awarded a $300,000 grant from the California Office of Traffic Safe
