SEATTLE — The woman attacked outside the King County Courthouse last week says she is now blind in one eye, and the person accused of assaulting her appeared before a judge Tuesday as his attorney raised concerns about his mental competency.

The victim, 75-year-old Jeanette Marken, told KING 5 in an exclusive interview that the attack left her with broken bones in her face and permanent vision loss. Charging documents allege the attacker used a long wooden board with a single screw attached to the end to hit her.

Defense cites long history of mental incompetence

During the court hearing, public defender Kevin Robinson immediately raised what he described as defendant Fale Pea’s longstanding struggles with mental health.
