HAMPTON, Va. — Hampton University has found its next head football coach just over two weeks after moving on from Trent Boykin. A source tells 13NewsNow that the Pirates are hiring Kansas State assistant head coach Van Malone to lead the program.
Malone has spent the past seven seasons with Kansas State, serving as the Wildcats’ defensive passing game coordinator. During his tenure, K-State posted three nine-win seasons in the last four years, while his secondary developed seven All-Big 12 cornerbacks.
The Wildcats’ defense flourished under his guidance, allowing just 21.8 points per game across the past four seasons — a mark that ranked in the top 25 nationally. Malone, 55, is also a former Texas Longhorn All-American and four-year letterman.
