SUFFOLK, Va. — Suffolk School Board members voted Thursday night to launch a forensic audit of the division’s budget, following growing concerns from community members about how school dollars are being spent.
Vice Chair Sean McGee said people within the school system and the wider Suffolk community have raised alarms about potential mismanagement, and even possible fraud, prompting the board to take a deeper look at the division’s finances.
“Members of the community believe our budget needed to be scrutinized, a deeper dive look,” McGee said.
While Suffolk Public Schools has undergone audits before, McGee emphasized that this forensic audit will be far more extensive, aimed at determining whether taxpayer money is being used responsibly.
