Border Patrol sweeps across the New Orleans metro area have left some Hispanic-owned restaurants in Mid-City and Kenner closed, their interiors empty and signs opposing ICE and Border Patrol taped to their windows.
Lt. Gov. Billy Nungesser said the operations have created fear in immigrant communities and disruptions in the local workforce.
“It’s home builders, it’s restaurants, it’s hotels — people aren’t showing up for work,” Nungesser said in an interview.

Nungesser said he wants the federal government to provide more information about the scope and timeline of the sweeps.
“How long is it going to continue?” he said. “Did they say we’re gonna be here for two weeks, for two months, or we’re gonna be here
