With Upper Peninsula residents regularly venturing south into Wisconsin, it helps to know the rules of the road in that state — and a significant one became law this week, the Wisconsin Department of Transportation advised.
Drivers in Wisconsin are now required to move over or slow down when approaching disabled vehicles on the side of the road. Gov. Tony Evers signed Assembly Bill 409, now 2025 Wisconsin Act 54, providing that added protection.
This expansion of the “Move Over” law aims to better safeguard motorists and reduce the risk of roadside crashes, WisDOT states in a news release.
