BIRMINGHAM – It’s only the first week of the season, but Farmington Hills Mercy was under pressure Thursday night.

The Marlins made their fair share of mistakes playing against Birmingham Groves, who are employing the Grinnell System that emphasizes full-court pressure, brisk subs and volume 3-point shooting this year, but Mercy survived that and a late push by the hosts to win 66-59.

Juniors Elle Geerlings (19 points) and Caroline Paluk (14) hit threes in a first quarter that Mercy began on a 9-0 run and saw their opponents struggle to manufacture inside offense.
