High winds are buffeting Long Island, adding to the winter chill that will stay in the region through the weekend, with an inch of snow forecast for Saturday night.

The National Weather Service has issued a wind advisory for Long Island through Thursday and lasting until Friday at 4 a.m. High temperatures are in the 30s Thursday afternoon, despite sunshine, then dropping to the 20s at night, with the gusting winds making it feel more like 15 to 20 degrees.

Already, the weather service recorded winds of between 35 mph and 52 mph in Suffolk and between 35 mph and 51 mph in Nassau.

Friday will bring more sunshine and more cold weather, in the mid 30s in the afternoon and the low 20s at night. There will be a slight warmup to the low 40s Saturday but Saturday evening will bring accumulating
