MONTICELLO- Monticello native Michael Perez, currently a Tyler Hill, Pa. resident, was lauded on Thursday by the Public Safety Committee of the Sullivan County Legislature for his “selfless and heroic effort” to rescue a 88-year-old Sackett Lake resident, Sandor Talas, from his burning home.
That November 4 blaze could have taken Talas’ life were it not for Perez driving by, spotting the smoke and taking swift action, according to both Monticello Firer Chief Jon Wells and Talas’ daughters, Susie Talas and Kathleen Thomas.
Perez credited God for his being in the right place at the right time.
