Residents of an Edinburgh street have recalled the terrifying moment a flat went up in flames on Thursday.
Edinburgh Live previously reported how two people, including a firefighter, were hospitalised following the incident, which saw Edinburgh's Grassmarket completely shut yesterday.
One eyewitness told how the affected top-floor flat at Heriot Bridge was home to an elderly couple.
“My neighbour came running downstairs screaming ‘fire’ and banging on my door, she didn’t know what to do and was panicking," she said.
“I don’t know who called the fire brigade, but by the time they got here, the whole place was pouring with smoke.
“I have concerns because there’s only one way in and one way out of these flats, through the front door. The only alternative is to climb through these windows
