CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) - Tribute murals for Charlotte light rail stabbing victim Iryna Zarutska have begun surfacing nationwide.
Zarutska, a 23-year-old refugee who had fled war-torn Ukraine for Charlotte, was fatally stabbed while riding a light rail train on Friday, Aug. 22.
Intercom CEO Eoghan McCabe — who first proposed the idea — announced on Monday, Dec. 8 , that the first mural had been completed in Venice, California. McCabe had originally offered $500,000 in $10,000 grants to have the murals painted in prominent U.S. cities.
Elon Musk contributed an additional $1 million to support the mural project .
