An 18-year-old is facing attempted murder charges following a shooting in Asbury Park, authorities announced Friday, Dec. 12.
On Thursday, Sept. 11, Asbury Park police responded to the 100 block of Monmouth Avenue and found two men with gunshot wounds, Monmouth County Prosecutor Raymond Santiago said.
Tyshan Small, 37, was rushed to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead, Santiago said. A second victim was hospitalized with a non-life-threatening injury. Santiago said.
An investigation determined Jerod Jones, a 32-year-old Neptune City resident, was responsible for the double shooting, Santiago said. Jones remains at large, Santiago said.
Moments after the initial shooting by Jones, a second shots fired incident took place at the same location, Santiago said. The investigation resulted in Calvin Joseph being identified as the individual responsible for the second shooting, Santiago said.
No injuries were reported, Santiago said.
Joseph was apprehended soon after and is charged with attempted murder and multiple weapons offenses, Santiago said.
