An ordinary family get-together turned into a blood bath when a mentally ill man stabbed his elderly mother to death, telling his father: "I want her to die". Daniel Cook, 39, killed his mother, Ellen Cook, 72, after a disagreement at a family dinner.

Leicester Crown Court heard details of the shocking incident today (December 12) as Cook was sentenced for manslaughter. Three psychologists agreed he suffered from schizophrenia at the time he knifed his mum, who he believed was a witch, more than 30 times .

Cook, 39, had been living in Ashby-de-la-Zouch, Leicestershire , at the time, where he ran a business selling books and other things online, LeicestershireLive reports . He wanted to move back to his parents' home, the court heard.
