ORANGE, Ohio – Village Council has passed an ordinance that is designed to help the Orange Police and Fire departments collect unpaid fees incurred by property owners for false alarms.

The ordinance was introduced to council Wednesday (Dec. 10).

Council typically votes on ordinances on third reading, unless the administration requests suspension of the rules.

But after Councilwoman Kim Ullner requested that council suspend the rules and approve this ordinance so it could be in effect Jan. 1, a motion to do so was made and passed.

Council does not meet again until Jan. 7.

According to the legislation, the Police and Fire Departments have seen a rise in responding to alarm activations that have been triggered in error, for which a false alarm fee is charged.
