Akron police won't be getting a new headquarters, but by the time the city is done overhauling the 58-year-old Harold K. Stubbs Justice Center at 217 S. High Street it will be good as new.

Akron Mayor Shammas Malik said the city plans to undertake a years-long phased full renovation of the building beginning in 2026.

In a Dec. 12 prepared statement, Malik explained that renovations will begin with "replacing two of the public elevators in the front of the building and an employee elevator in the rear of the building, replacing the heating and cooling lines from the basement to the 10th floor, and beginning the design for the full renovation."
