The little “P” in the corner of Michigan license plates has a big impact for parks across the state.

This year, Michigan’s Recreation Passport Grants are funding nearly $2 million in municipal park projects across 11 counties.

Each year Michiganders are asked if they want to add the passport when renewing their license plate. The $14 passport allows access to 103 state parks and recreation areas as well as state-managed boating access sites, state forest campgrounds, thousands of miles of trails and other outdoor spaces.

In addition to funding state parks, campgrounds and historical sites, 10% of Recreation Passport sales are earmarked for a grant program for local park improvements.
