In many Alpine resorts, the cost of skiing is soaring this winter, thanks to rising energy and operational costs.
According to new research from Post Office Travel Money, one in 12 people are planning to travel to ski resorts this winter, but are likely to be paying more than last year – prices have risen by an average of 10 per cent since last year.
In St Anton am Arlberg , Austria, the cost of an adult lift pass is now €81.50 (£72) per day, up by more than 4 per cent since last season.
In Tignes-Val d’Isère , a week-long pass costs €450 (£395) for adults this winter – for a family of four, this could add more than £1,000 to the cost of a holiday, on top of travel, accommodation, equipment, food and drinks.
