DES MOINES, Iowa (KTIV) - To keep Iowans safe on the roads this holiday season, the Iowa Department of Transportation (Iowa DOT) and Governor’s Traffic Safety Bureau (GTSB) is giving residents the gift of traffic safety.
According to the Iowa DOT, state and local law enforcement will have extra patrols on the road to spread the message of the dangers that come with impaired driving. This is a part of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s (NHTSA) high visibility campaign.
The Iowa DOT says impaired driving is a leading cause of deadly crashes.
“Drunk driving isn’t just dangerous, it’s illegal,” said GTSB Chief Brett Tjepkes, “We need every driver to commit to keeping the roads free of drunk drivers so that everyone can have a safe holiday season.”
