KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) - A Knoxville Police Department officer is under internal investigation for possibly breaking KPD’s immigration enforcement policy. The officer is accused of transporting a man who had an active Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) warrant, something KPD officers are not supposed to do, with limited exceptions.
According to a field report obtained by WVLT, KPD officers responded to the Dollar General at 2625 Western Ave. after a caller claimed Victor Bernardino Mariono was trying to use counterfeit $100 bills. The report said the responding offers found the cash to be genuine, but also learned Bernardino Mariono had an active ICE warrant.
A KPD officer then took Bernardino Mariono into custody, confirmed the ICE warrant with the federal agency and took him to
