BLOUNT COUNTY, Tenn. (WVLT) - It was in the middle of this intersection off Brickmill Road that Melissa Glidewell’s life changed forever.

“It was horrible, I wouldn’t wish it for anyone,” Glidewell said.

On July 7, Glidewell and her parents were involved in a car crash on that section of US 411 in Blount County. Her parents, Jerry and Shirley Gurley, passed away.

“They were the kindest, most gentle people,” Glidewell said. “They wanted to help out their brothers and sisters, and that wasn’t necessarily their family.”

According to reports, Jerry Gurley was trying to turn south off Brickmill Road and was hit by oncoming traffic.

Glidewell said the speed of the road and the growth of Blount County are why she reached out to Sen. Tom Hatcher to help make a change for the future.
