A major stationery retailer looks set to shut its Bishop Auckland store, with closing‑down signs now in the window.
The Works on Newgate Street would be the latest business to leave the town centre, advertising a clearance sale before shutting its doors.
Posts on social media suggest it will be closing on February 19 next year.
The closest Works store to Bishop Auckland will be the one in Darlington.

The neighbouring shop, ShoeZone, closed last year due to structural damage after the building next to it was demolished to make way for the new STACK building.
Work on the STACK site was previously halted in March due to structural concerns with nearby buildings and cost pressures.
