GRAND RAPIDS, MI - Lisa Wideman, president of Meals on Wheels West Michigan, typically spends her days working to deliver meals to 6,000 West Michigan seniors and finalizing the details of a building expansion project.

But after reports this week that a $2 million grant for the project was canceled, she instead spent hours on the phone with elected officials and the nonprofit’s construction contractor. She still doesn’t have all the answers.

“I can’t say I slept well the last few days,” Wideman said, adding, “I don’t have any assurances from anyone at this point that things are going to be okay.”
