NORFOLK, Va. — The guided-missile destroyer USS Gravely (DDG 107) is set to return to Naval Station Norfolk on Saturday following a four-month deployment supporting U.S. Southern Command missions.
Gravely was deployed from March to June to the Gulf of America and Caribbean Sea in support of U.S. Northern Command, then again from August to December with USSOUTHCOM. During the deployments, the ship worked alongside the USS Iwo Jima Amphibious Readiness Group and the USS Gerald R. Ford Carrier Strike Group.
The Arleigh Burke-class destroyer carries about 300 sailors and is capable of multiple missions, including air and anti-submarine warfare, strike operations, surface warfare, and naval gunfire support.
Gravely is the 57th ship in its class and is named for Vice Admiral Samuel L. Gravely
