WESTLAKE, Ohio (WOIO) - An 85-year-old man reported to the Westlake Police Department Thursday that he was a victim of a scam.

The man told police that the day prior, he was on his computer and received a pop-up message saying his computer was compromised.

The message had a phone number to call that was from “Microsoft.”

Unfortunately, the man called the number and was connected to scammers.

According to police, the scammers transferred him several times and made him believe that his bank account was also compromised and he was “missing $40,000.”

Scammers told the 85-year-old man that he only way to recoup his funds would be through a process called “Duplicate Charges,” where the man was instructed to go to his bank and withdraw cash.
