SALEM, Ore. - The Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) is set to implement significant changes for trucking companies and carriers starting Jan. 1, 2026. These changes will see increased fines and the end of a key program.
According to ODOT, fines for moving companies operating without certification will rise from $1,000 to $3,000. The expanded law will now also cover offering, advertising, or transporting without a certificate.
“ODOT’s certification process involves background checks and adherence to approved rates and procedures to protect Oregonians from deceitful and unsafe practices, like charging too much, damaging items or stealing belongings,” said Leah Cisneros, ODOT Commerce and Compliance Division Investigation and Compliance Manager.
