Renewal of an agreement that Hamblen County has with a company associated with the Department of Justice was up for scrutiny at Monday’s Hamblen County Committees meeting at the Courthouse.

During the meeting of the Finance Committee, County Mayor Chris Cutshaw explained the proposed renewal of an agreement with Justice Benefits, Inc. The county has had this agreement with JBI since April 2013.

“This is a professional services agreement with JBI to handle our state criminals’ alien assistance program,” Cutshaw said. “Hamblen County gets grant money back from the feds and will administer the money to help deal with criminal alien assistance.

“They’re not from this country, basically,” Cutshaw said. “Every three years, we’ve renewed this contract with this service.
