Swarnjit Singh has spent the last 10 days getting settled in as the new mayor for Norwich.

After his Dec. 2 swearing-in ceremony, he’s been focused on his priorities of housing and economic development.

“It feels good, it feels like lot of responsibility for the city,” Singh said about his new title.

His election is also significant beyond the Rose City, as Singh is the first Sikh elected mayor in Connecticut.

“This is like American dream come true because America is the land of opportunity and equal opportunity for all, which we respect and cherish,” said Manmohan Singh Bharara, founder of both the Guru Nanak Food Pantry and the Gurdwara Sackhand Darbar in Hamden.
