WASHINGTON — A West Virginia National Guard member who suffered a critical injury in a shooting last month is continuing to make progress in his recovery, according to a press release.

Ssgt. Andrew Wolfe is now breathing on his own and can stand with assistance, according to Dr. Jeffrey Mai, a neurosurgeon with MedStar Washington Hospital Center, at which Wolfe is receiving treatment.

Mai said these developments are "important milestones that reflect his strength and determination."

"Based on these improvements, he is now ready to transition from acute care to inpatient rehabilitation as the next step in his recovery journey," Mai said.
