NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) - The Nashville Department of Transportation (NDOT) is rolling out the city’s first ever “Smart Signal” traffic lights at 36 intersections along Lebanon Pike.

The new technology is aimed at improving traffic flow and efficiency at intersections, keeping lights green for longer when they need to be based on current traffic patterns.

“For years, our signal system hasn’t been able to adapt to real time events, whether that was a crash on the interstate, early school dismissal, multiple concerts happening downtown on the same night,” said Choose How You Move Chief Program Officer Sabrina Sussman. “Smart Signals, they change that.”
