Tears broke out on an airport runway after a Santa -bound flight to Lapland was scrapped.

The cancellation dashed the hopes of hundreds of children whose parents had forked out thousands of pounds for a festive day trip to Finland on Thursday, December 11. The youngsters piled onto their 7am flight from Glasgow Airport buzzing with excitement in festive jumpers and red hats, ready for a fairytale day in Lapland.

The trip promised husky rides, snowmobiles and sleigh rides with Santa through snow-covered forests. But the magic quickly turned to heartbreak when passengers were told something had hit the plane's windscreen moments before take-off. Parents were left trying to comfort their devastated children as families were escorted off the plane.
