PORTSMOUTH — For a business that started with a borrowed cooler, a stack of teak wood and a dream nudged along by family mentors, West Main Pizza has had a remarkably steady rise.
On Dec. 27, the restaurant at 1620 West Main Road marks its 30th anniversary — an uncommon milestone in a business where most ventures don’t last nearly that long.
Owners Gary and Emily Rahilly still remember the moment the idea became real. Back in the early 1990s, Gary was cooking at Brick Alley Pub in Newport under the watchful, encouraging eye of Emily’s uncle, Ralph Plumb. “You need to go out and get your own place,” he told Gary.
