Agartala, 13 th December 2025: . Kailashahar’s Srinathpur Gram Panchayat witnessed a political shift yesterday evening, as 103 voters from 33 families abandoned the CPI(M) to join the Congress. The development, led by former CPI(M) panchayat member Mujib Ali, has sparked widespread discussion in the local political circles.
The defection comes amid growing discontent among minority voters, who expressed frustration over CPI(M)’s decision to ally with the BJP in forming the panchayat. Residents allege that a handful of CPI(M) leaders compromised party ideals for personal gain, eroding the party’s credibility and weakening its organizational base in minority-dominated areas.
