GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB) - Veterans Memorial Park in Alachua County is set to undergo a makeover, with a focus on the roller hockey rink that has been a staple for 25 years.

In the past, the rink buzzed with roller skaters and hockey games, but its condition has raised concerns among some residents.

The county is seeking community input on possible improvements. While many residents want to revitalize the space for roller skating or maintain its hockey tradition, others are advocating for the addition of pickleball courts.

“This rink has been through a lot, and we don’t want a situation where nobody can play hockey because there are many pickleball courts,” said Nikhil Narayanan, a resident.
