Two men police say are in the United States illegally were arrested after stealing a gold necklace valued at more than $7,600 from a Neiman Marcus store in New York.
The theft happened at approximately 3:51 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 24, at the Neiman Marcus located at 620 Old Country Road in East Garden City, according to the Nassau County Police Department Major Case Squad.
Surveillance video showed two male suspects manipulating a display case and removing a gold necklace valued at $7,665, detectives said. The suspects then passed all points of purchase without paying and fled the store in an unknown direction.
Following a thorough investigation, police arrested Victor Manuel Riveros Ruiz, 48, and Ludy Esperanza Ardila Mogollon, 49, both of Maspeth.
Both men were charged with fourth-degree grand larceny and issued appearance tickets returnable to First District Court at 99 Main St. in Hempstead, authorities said.
Both defendants are in the United States illegally and are subject to removal proceedings, police explained. US Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents took custody of the men following their arrests.
