ISHPEMING, MI – The 139 th installment of the longest-running ski jumping tournament in the United States is set for January.
The tournament brings world-class athletes, passionate fans, and a century-long legacy together under the snowy lights of Suicide Hill near Marquette, according to the Ishpeming Ski Club , which hosts the event.
“It’s an incredible event,” Peter Copenhaver, club vice president, told WLUC . “I mean, these athletes are flying over your head at 60 miles an hour, sizzling through the air like bacon. It’s visceral, it strikes you in the chest, it’s incredible.”
The event, scheduled for Jan. 16-18, features full days of competition, including a Junior World Qualifier where athletes 19 and younger can compete for a place in the FIS Nordic Junior World Ski Champion
