Stewartville School District says there will be a late start for students on Monday and police will be present on campuses following the shocking incident on Friday that saw a student shot by a man who then took his own life.

The shooting happened in the Stewartville Middle/High School parking lot around 5 a.m., as approximately 40 members and coaches of the wrestling team, including the victim, gathered outside the high school to bus to a meet.

After an initial shot was fired, coaching staff found the injured student in the parking lot, then a second shot rang out and a man who appeared to have suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound "was located on the ground nearby with a rifle in hand."

The man died at the scene, while the student was taken to a hospital where his condition was list
