At 12:57 a.m. on Sunday, the National Weather Service issued a winter storm watch valid from Monday 7 a.m. until Tuesday 1 p.m. for Jefferson and Lewis counties.
The weather service describes, "Heavy lake effect snow possible. Total snow accumulations of more than 7 inches possible in the most persistent lake snows."
"Travel could be very difficult. The hazardous conditions could impact the Monday morning and evening commutes," explains the weather service. "During lake effect snow, the weather can vary from bands of locally heavy snow with greatly reduced visibilities to dry conditions just a few miles away.
