Andy Burnham is plotting to make his come back as an MP ahead of the local elections, it has been reported.
The Greater Manchester mayor has reportedly identified a seat for his return and is seeking support from within the party for a leadership challenge, according to The Sunday Times .
Allies of the former Health Secretary have already reached out to members of the Socialist Campaign Group, which includes Richard Burgon, Diane Abbott and John McDonnell.
One Labour MP has claimed that Burnham’s supporters had even offered a Cabinet position for one of the members of the group.
A senior Labour figure said: “No 10 is completely stuck. There is complete inertia. Something needs to happen in the new year to force change or there will be anarchy.”
