WHETHER in full flood or deep frost, High Force on the River Tees is one of the most majestic sights in the country.

At the beginning of December it was captured in high spate by our Northern Perspectives contributor – a photographer based near Durham with a drone and a website – and the Echo archives reveal what happens to the falls when the temperatures drop to record lows.

High Force is the biggest waterfall in England – the greatest volume of water goes over it in a single drop. That drop is 70ft (or 21 metres) and it falls into a plunge pool which is estimated to be 60ft (18 metres) deep.
